Sidecar or remote desktop: which do you need?

A second display and remote control solve different problems. Here is how to choose.

Extend your desktop

Sidecar extends or mirrors a Mac desktop onto a compatible iPad. It is a built-in option for using both devices nearby. Apple supports both wireless and USB connections.

For wireless use, Apple specifies a maximum distance of 10 metres and requires Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Handoff. Check device and account requirements before setting it up.

Control a Mac over the network

Nubo is designed to open a remote session from iPad and control the Mac desktop over a reachable network. You do not need to sit beside the Mac, but it must be available, Nubo must be running, and permissions must be granted.

Away from home, you can configure a private network such as Tailscale and use manual connection. That network requires separate setup; leaving your Wi-Fi does not automatically make the Mac reachable.

Test your workflow

If you want more screen space beside your Mac, start with Sidecar. If you want to work from another room, test remote control with your everyday apps. Check keyboard shortcuts, audio, and text legibility before deciding.

Nubo PRO offers monthly and yearly subscriptions on iPad. The Mac companion is a separate download. Check current terms and prices in the App Store; it is not a one-time purchase without a subscription.
